Do you ever find yourself wanting a snack, but not knowing what to have or tired of the same old snacks? Well, I’ve got a solution for you! I was lucky enough to receive a copy of 365 Snacks for Every Day of the Year by fellow dietitian, Sarah Koszyk.
This book is great for students, parents, anyone on the go, or those who want to refresh their snack game. It has 365 snack ideas ranging from recipes that require some assembly, ideas that are perfect for school, work or on the go, and even some that will satisfy your sweet tooth! The recipes are quick to put together and each snack idea includes a calorie count. There are also options if you are out and about and want to grab a healthy snack.
I personally love snacks, they are a great way to keep you going until your next meal. But be aware, not all snacks are created equally! Many of the “snack size” options for processed foods may be portioned to have have a smaller amount of calories, but they also lack nutrients and fibre. This means that it won’t keep you satiated for long. When you compare the same amount of calories with a snack based on fruits, vegetables, protein, whole grains and healthy fats, you receive key nutrients and fibre that will keep you going until your next meal.

Sarah generously let me share a recipe from her book with all of you and I have to tell you, I had a difficult time choosing on which recipe I wanted to share! I finally decided on the Half Grilled Cheese and Apple Sandwich recipe. This recipe was so simple, it took me a couple minutes to put together. I was a little skeptical on how it would taste, but boy, oh boy, this was delicious! The apples brought a nice crispness to the sandwich and when paired with the cheddar cheese gave a nice contrast of sweet and savoury.
